It does, however, lean strongly toward the Buddhist perspective in its view of reality, and the nature and process of enlightenment. This presents a sharp contrast to the dominant Hindu perspective as found in the Bhagavad Gita.

.

Described by Ken Wilber as "India’s greatest modern philosopher-sage" and as "the greatest of all Vedantic philosophers," Sri Aurobindo (1872–1950) is considered one of the foremost philosophers of the 20th-century, and was, as well, a political activist, mystic, spiritual leader, poet, and yogi. His unique contribution to the development of the human potential was realized through his integration of Eastern and Western cultures.

.

As well as comparing aspects of Eckhart’s teaching and Sri Aurobindo’s yoga, Dr. A. S. Dalal relates these teachings to the story of his own spiritual quest. A Moslem by birth, Dr. Dalal was born in Tanzania, moved to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram for seven years, then worked in the U.S. as a psychologist for over two decades before returning to the ashram where he now lives. He has compiled ten books based on the work of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and has written two books integrating Sri Aurobindo’s psychological thought with modern psychology. Various books of his, published in India and abroad, have been translated into French, Italian, German, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Lithuanian, Korean, and several Indian languages.

.

ISBN: 81-89658-31-X; PAGES: 184; SIZE: 5.5 X 8.5 in.; Price: Editions India Rs. 300; Arunachala Press (international edition) $.14.95 (U.S), €. 12.95 (U.K)Philosophy/Religion/Consciousness Studies

.

Market: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Maldives, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Before I Am

Mooji
.
Life—who lives it?
Knowledge—who seeks it?
Death—who fears it?
Paths—who follows them?
Enlightenment—who attains it?
I do
.

Now, find out what ‘I’ is!

“Mooji’s book offers an unending flow of inspiration from the Reality of Being. A more satisfying and transformative option for some is to embark on a quest to discover God independently. Using time-tested tools of spiritual investigation, it becomes possible to examine our present beliefs, explore the nature of God and sense of self, and ultimately expand our identity beyond its borders. This book introduces this age-old approach to spiritual inquiry for modern-day readers. Step by step, it offers a bridge between organized religion and mystical spirituality for anyone questioning traditional dogma or its legacy of divisiveness. It also assists in overcoming limitations and notions of exclusivity promoted by New Age movements. For instance, when laboratory rats in one place have learned how to navigate a new maze, why do rats elsewhere seem to learn it more easily? Rupert Sheldrake describes this process as morphic resonance: the past forms and behaviors of organisms, he argues, influence organisms in the present through direct connections across time and space. Calling into question many of our fundamental concepts about life and consciousness, Sheldrake reinterprets the regularities of nature as being more like habits than immutable laws.

.

The first edition of A New Science of Life created a furor when it appeared, provoking the outrage of the old-guard scientific community and the approbation of the new. The British journal Nature called it “the best candidate for burning there has been for many years.” A lively debate ensued, as researchers devised experiments testing Sheldrake’s hypothesis, including some involving millions of people through the medium of television. These developments are recorded in this revised and expanded edition.

.

Rupert Sheldrake, Ph.D., is a former Research Fellow of the Royal Society and was a scholar of Clare College, Cambridge, and a Frank Knox Fellow at Harvard University. In this book he urges us to move beyond the centuries-old mechanistic view of nature, explaining in lucid terms why we can no longer regard the world as inanimate and purposeless. Through an astute critique of the dominant scientific paradigm, Sheldrake shows how recent developments in science itself have brought us to the threshold of a new synthesis in which traditional wisdom, intuitive experience, and scientific insight can be mutually enriching.
.

ISBN: 81-89658-22-0; Price: Rs. 450; Pages: 260; Size: 6 x 9 in.

New Science/Ecology

.

Market: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Maldives

The Presence of the Past

Rupert Sheldrake
.

“Our memories may not be stored inside our brains, as we usually assume they must be.”

.
Morphic fields, like the known fields of physics, are non-material regions of influence extending in space and continuing in time. When any organic or inorganic organized system ceases to exist, its organizing field disappears from its place, but its morphic field does not disappear, appearing again physically in other times and places, wherever and whenever the physical conditions are appropriate. And containing within itself a memory of its previous physical existence.

.

The Presence of the Past lays out the evidence for Sheldrake’s controversial theories, exploring its implications in the fields of biology, physics, psychology, and sociology. At the same time, Sheldrake delivers a stinging critique of conventional scientific thinking, which sees nature as a machine that, although constant and governed by eternal laws, is nonetheless somehow evolutionary. In place of the mechanistic, neo-Darwinian worldview he offers a new understanding of life, matter, and mind.

Rupert Sheldrake is a former Research Fellow of the Royal Society, and was a scholar of Clare College, Cambridge, and a Frank Knox Fellow at Harvard University. The bleak realities of life and sense of separation are no match for the outpouring of insights contained in this extremely readable book. The author’s use of “to” rather than “from” in the title is of profound significance to all concerned about what “enlightenment” will mean to their lives.

Author comment: “The text of Awakening to the Dream does not state that improvement of personal circumstances is impossible, but that there is no separate you to do it, When improvements happen, they happen, and if this seems to include personal action and input, then that is what happens. In Awakening to the Dream it is said that there is no ‘you’ having a life, but only life appearing as everything including the pattern identified as ‘you.’”

“I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Spiritual seekers by the thousands have come to the end of the masters and gurus, the religions and philosophies, and the process of “getting better.” The spiritual marketplace has discovered the “power of now” and learned all about the present moment — but is that it? Is it that simple? What’s next after now?

.
When we give up spirituality –– not out of a reaction or because we have completed some mythical journey –– and we drop into the present, what is the post-spiritual reality and how do we live it creatively? Steven Harrison probes these questions, deepening the discovery that the present is a place of boundless creativity in which we can be constantly challenged and inspired to fulfill the wonders of the human potential. Steven Harrison is one of the most insightful and provocative authors in the arena of spiritual inquiry today.
.
ISBN: 81-89658-11-5; Price: Rs. 250; Pages: 170; Size: 5.5 X 8.5 in.

.

Market: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Maldives

Coming Home: An Invitation to Rediscover Beingness

Jan Kersschot, M.D.

Belgian physician and author Jan Kersschot has written this book as an initiation into a new way of seeing, into the recognition that being concerned about life is not the practical defensive stance we have to accept as necessary to advance in the world and to survive.

Likewise, the simplicity of everyday life is not the negative we’ve been taught to avoid, but an entryway into the “open secret.” Kersschot gives easier access to what Zen Buddhism, Taoism, Vendanta, and Tantra all describe, with a writing style that’s direct, compelling, and requires no religious or philosophical touchstones. He moves the reader “beyond effort, belief, and path into a new perception,” as author Tony Parsons says.

Dr. Jan Kersschot obtained his medical degree from the University of Antwerp. As his interest in the nature of appearances deepened, he studied the written traditions worldwide and also sought out leading teachers in the field of nondual spirituality. Deepening insights lead to the writing of several books in the field. Karl’s unique ability lies in exposing the beliefs we’ve built our lives on, beginning with our root sense of individuality. Our current predicament is the result of believing ourselves to be something other than what. Throughout these dialogues, Karl unceasingly brings us back to the truth of our real nature by helping us recognize the fleeting and impermanent nature of the self we’ve come to believe in. Even momentarily seeing the truth of who we really are immediately frees us, if only temporarily, from these limitations we impose on ourselves.

.

Karl’s purpose—if we can say he even has one—is to reflect our own divinity, which he skillfully and uncompromisingly expresses throughout the pages of this book. By realizing the implication of his words, we can live life to its fullest and experience the boundless freedom that is our essence.

.

KARL RENZ is originally from the Lower Saxony area of Germany. He studied agriculture before focusing on art, and since 1980 he has worked in Berlin as a musician and painter.

.

Toward the end of the 1970s, Karl had a profound inner experience that awakened him to the realization of immortality and dissolved the concept of a separate self. Since the early 1990s, he has responded to numerous invitations to hold dialogues and meetings throughout the world.

.

ISBN: 81-89658-12-3; Price: Rs. 375; Pages: 320; SIZE: 6 X 9 in. But Mother exists forever and includes everything within herself.’

.
When he published this book in 1967, author Ekkirala Bharadwaja was the first to describe Anasuya Devi, popularly known as Jillellamudi Amma, and her ashram, recording her sayings and the happenings surrounding her up to the late 1960s. This first-person, present-tense account gives a vivid picture of what it was like to be graced with her presence.
.
Author and academician Timothy Conway, Ph.D., writes, 'Anasuya Devi is, to my mind, one of the greatest spiritual presences ever to be embodied in this planet, a highly remarkable Divine Mother of modern times.'
.
One of the most profound, enigmatic, and radical spiritual figures, Jillellamudi Amma lived her entire life as a househoulder, to all appearances a typical village wife and mother in the state of Andhra Pradesh on India's southeast coast. Born Anasuya Devi, she was far from typical, however, and even as a small child acted as a guru to pundits and priests. Among her sayings:

.
"If Knowledge is Brahman, why not Ignorance" "Where is the question of a good way to Atman when everything you see is that?" "Vedanta is that which is not understood either by the one that expounds it or the one that listens to it."
.
After Amma laid aside her physical form on June 12, 1985, a life-size image of her was installed in 1987 at the temple in her ashram. Jillellamudi has become a pilgrimage centre where the continuous chanting of Amma's namam, "Jaya ho Mata Sree Anasuya Raja Rajeswari Sree Pararpari," is done. Amma stated, "Even without the body, my work continues." Today, many people confirm this.
.
ACHARYA EKKIRALA BHARADWAJA did his M.A. (English) at Andhra University in 1959, and worked as Lecturer in English in several colleges in Andhra Pradesh from the early 1960s till he quit in the mid-seventies to pursue a spiritual path of life.
In an enthralling book, the author-teacher uses the powerful, ancient symbol of personality types, the Enneagram, to reveal who you are NOT, opening the mind to the infinite spaciousness of being — free of past, present, and future.
.
The Enneagram, an ancient method of diagnosing our psychological fixations, has been interpreted in our time as an illusory medicine to cure an imaginary disease—the egoic idea of separation from God, from one’s true source. The cure is to employ it as the amazing wisdom mirror it was intended to be, to use it to see past all false identification to the truth of being. Eli Jaxon-Bear presents a radically new model of the ego and the psyche in a fresh approach to spiritual awakening by using the Enneagram’s nine fixated structures of ego to clearly describe who you are not.
.
From the book: “It is a fortunate and mysterious moment when the desire for happiness leads to the investigation into personal identity, also known as self-inquiry. In the light of direct self-inquiry, limitations that once seemed to define oneself are discovered to exist only on the surface of consciousness in one’s imagination.” Among featured cover endorsements: “A warm, engrossing book … readers will be well served by its wit and wisdom.” — Russ Hudson and Don Richard Ruso, authors, The Wisdom of the Enneagram.
.

ISBN : 81-89658-00-X; Price: Rs. 395; Pages: 195; Size: 6 x 9 in.

.
Market: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Maldives, Australia, and New Zealand

The Life We Are Given

George Leonard, Michael Murphy
.

“The Life We Are Given is a powerful, compelling, comprehensive approach to individual transformation and community enrichment. These are last writings of the extraordinary Swami Siddheswarananda, who was born into the royal family of Cochin, Kerala, India, and became a monk of the Ramakrishna order. He spent most of his life, however, in service to French adherents of Vedanta. He founded and, until his death, was the spiritual head of the Centre Vedantique Ramakrichna in the picturesque river town of Gertz, France. This book is the culmination of a lifetime of spiritual search and includes commentaries on aspects of the Mandukya Upanishad.

.

In these teachings, the Swami seeks to convey an experience of an intuition operating beyond logic, outside the play of opposites, through which seekers can more readily sense the nature of reality. To elucidate his meanings and to make them broadly accessible, the Swami draws on the writings of others including Meister Eckhart, Ramana Maharshi, Adi Sankara, Hubert Benoit, and Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.

.

Originally written in French, we are publishing the first English translation internationally under the ARUNACHALA PRESS imprint, as a co-publication with Monkfish Publishing Co., Rhinebeck, NY, and the Indian edition under the Editions INDIA imprint.

.

ISBN: 81-89658-01-8; Price: Rs. 295; Pages: 192; SIZE: 5.5 x 8.5 in.

.

Market:India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Maldives, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa

The Simplest Way

Madhukar
.

With his guru H.W.L. Poonja, affectionately called “Papaji,” this former TV broadcaster in Germany became immersed in effortlessness, and is effectively communicating this ease on speaking tours in the West and in India. Don’t concentrate on sadness, and don’t imagine or try to achieve happiness, he urges. It’s an ideal introduction for those seeking to center their attention on nondual reality in daily life. British poet and meditational music writer and producer Roy Whenary puts the mind in its place for good. He makes clear the critical distinction between feeling and feelings, revealing the true source of the latter to be in the mind, not our essence.

Severing our strong and sentimental identification with the Self allows us to move from mind-driven personal reactions to mind-free effective action. Feeling is seen as a different and more profound intelligence. Roy Whenary’s interest in Eastern spiritual philosophies began in the late 1960s, and his main inspirations have been J. Krishnamurti, Nisargadatta Maharaj, and Jean Klein.

“... Roy appeals from the heart directly to the heart for us to recognize our true nature and abandon once and for all the traditional pursuits of pleasure, prestige, and prosperity, which can never lead to happiness.” JERRY KATZ, founder of www.nonduality.com

ISBN: 10: 81-89658-06-9; 13:978-81-89658-06-9; Price: Rs. 275; Pages: 160; Size: 5.5 x 8.5 in. Since then he has shared his understanding at his home in Melbourne with those looking for direct access to the essential questions of life.

Delivered with a rare immediacy and authority, his words cut through the self-imposed barriers of the mind and reveal the freedom that is our original nature.

“Bob’s words are all so clear and simple, right to the heart of things ... . In the course of their candid revelations about their deepest fears and hopes, Isaac’s audience finds their conditioned reactions derailed by his steadfast insistence that one Reality fits all, and there’s no escape from it.

.
These dialogues with a Self-realized teacher as highly regarded as Isaac Shapiro offer an opportunity to be yourself as never before, an encouragement to experience life directly, a call to let go of your false identity. This is a radical’s invitation to come to the end of “good” and “bad,” and see beyond the drama of identification with our life stories.
.
Isaac is from South Africa and now lives in Australia.
.
Mentored by one of the greatest spiritual teachers of the 20th century, H.W.L. Poonja (known as “Papaji”) of Lucknow, India, he was urged by Papaji to share his insights with others. Isaac guides seekers from all parts of the world, gently, with compassion and humor, away from suffering and confusion to the very heart of their being, to freedom, to That which is. And how does all this happen? It happens by itself. . “At the cutting edge of spiritual exploration. He is an embodiment of the New Man.” — ARJUNA ARDAGH, author of the best-selling The Translucent Revolution.

.
ISBN: 81-89658-02-6; Price: Rs. 275; Pages:192; Size:5.5 x 8.5 in.
Spirituality/Philosophy

Market: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Maldives, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa

Escaping from a Dream Tiger

Isaac Shapiro

.
In reading these dialogues with a Self-realized teacher (now based in Australia), we can’t help but see the folly of feeling we have individual concerns. As others ask the questions on our own minds, individuality begins dropping away when we become caught up in the common plight of all humanity.
.

From the book: “Forget about the situation. Short-circuiting the ruts of the usual routes of inquiry, he brings our minds to a halt that permits a new understanding to enter.

Harrison sets the scene for our predicament: We are great doers. We can destroy forests, build huge cities, take over whole continents. We’ve proven that we can do, but we haven’t proven we can just be, happily. In no urban world culture is there respect for the simple act of existing. When you meet someone they usually say, “What do you do?” When we see someone we know, our first interest is “What have you been doing?”

“In a world where content is just the vehicle for commerce, commerce the means to wealth, and wealth the expression of our value, we have come to feel that our lives are without purpose, without connection, without grounding. This world of separation is maintained by the motion of our lives, perpetuated by the distractions and busyness that ultimately translate into a life of tremendous stress.” This book gives access to the alternatives in a direct, informal approach, beginning with the unsatisfactory answers we’ve accepted to our dilemmas and finding out what the real questions should have been.

In this original and inspiring work, Steven Harrison lays bare the workings of the mind with brilliant clarity. Grappling with the questions we all have about life, he deconstructs the prevailing spiritual, therapeutic, and self-help methods we use to try to change ourselves. Are humans suitable companions for one another, even after graduating from all the one-on-ones and workshops on self-fixing? Well, maybe, he says, if they are so fed up that they give up. Thoroughly exhausted from trying to bring about the myth, they can finally experience what extraordinary changes are possible when self-centered effort no longer blocks free-flowing life in all its originality.

ISBN: 81-89658-11-5; Price: Rs. 225; Pages: 160; Size: 5.5 X 8.5 in.

Spirituality/Philosophy

.

Market: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Maldives
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Distributed Books From Other Publishers

Doing Nothing: Coming to the End of the Spiritual Search

Steven Harrison

“Seeking answers to Life’s questions, I sought out every mystic, seer, and magician I could find throughout the world. In simple yet breathtakingly impressive prose, Harrison provides a life-changing map to that space he found between thoughts, where divine consciousness is blatantly apparent.

This fascinating exploration of a changed mind is for readers who have avidly followed practices that have not fundamentally changed their lives.

“There is no way to praise this powerful, extraordinary book sufficiently. Perhaps it is because we have become addicted to faulty survival techniques, institutions, and practices that make it hard to see ourselves in others. What we learn intellectually doesn’t help us be loving or recognize loving. Fantasizing is barking up the same tree.

A sense of community between another or among many is natural, says this author, throughout the worlds of flora and fauna. It’s a relentless force crammed with love that we can relax into but not acquire. That is his definition of the enlightened state that sets the stage for the condition of lasting loving.

The core message of this book is considered secret in some traditions so that people don’t become even more lost in ideas. Emptying out the vocabulary of love yet retaining respect for loaded words like “trust” is part of becoming that new, ever-attractive person that others can’t help but love. Readers who “try on” the author’s discoveries may find that abandoning “strategies” and defenses brings about the conditions that were always there but only masked.

ISBN: 1-59181-021-3; Price: Rs.100 ; Pages: 144; Size: 6 X 9 in.

Dancing With The Master

 Sri Vast

Sri Vast, a spiritual master from South India attuned to the concerns of contemporary society, is closely identified with both ecospirituality and freeing individuals from artificial role-playing in their lives. However, our traditional concepts of three dimensional Euclidean space, and also of universal time, have been revised, whereas the structural relationship between space and matter is yet to be explored by contemporary physics.

.

By not taking space interaction into account, modern theories in quantum physics have ignored spatial forces in nuclear structure as well as in elementary particles and, therefore, failed to identify the fundamental particles - the electron. It has been shown in this work that the primary source of cosmic energy arises in the dynamics of space that originates and creates matter and fields—thereby indicating that current physical theories are clearly on the wrong track with regard to the basic properties of space.

.
ISBN: 81-89658-10-7; Price: Rs. 350; Pages: 180; Size: 5.5 x 8.5in;
Science/Physics

.
Market: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Maldives
.
